"It can't rain forever, can it?" - Radar

We had a few days without rain last week and local farmer's took advantage of it to finish planting and get the first cutting of hay. Unfortunately for me, I was stuck at my paying job and couldn't get time off. This meant the previous Saturday was a day of work rain and I didn't get a chance to mow in my battle against the weeds.

This weekend looks to be much like last week as Friday gave us this:

I'm reminded again of the question that came from my friend, "It can't rain forever, can it?"

The answer seems to be, "Yes, it can."

Open Letter - to my friend

I lost a friend recently. Not because of a death but because of words.

Our friendship started through words a dozen years ago and through words our friendship grew. Words of mutual encouragement when either of us were down. Sharing words through our work at first but later sharing our backgrounds and of our lives and families. Our work took us in different directions a while ago and we connected again. We exchanged words once more of encouragement, of mutual admiration, of our families.

Then our friendship was lost through words.

Words that were said between us and with other third-parties. As important as what was said, the friendship died because of words that weren't said and should have been said. For that, I blame myself.

I carry the burden of the pain I caused as it will weigh upon me for the rest of my life. In the afterlife, I suppose, I will carry it as a link in the chain that will hang around my neck, like Jacob Marley's ghost.

I will not exacerbate the situation by posting their name for it to appear in a Google search. This is my confession to the world of my actions or rather inactions and there is no reason to share the blame. Each day I lose hope that we may speak again, to share words that were once a grateful communication between us.

I would like to think that someday we may be able to share and communicate once again, when I can ask that I might be forgiven for what I did and didn't do. Forgiven for what I said and wrote and for what I didn't say or should have written. The opportunity to speak is most likely over and we've accepted that.

If they would read this post, they could know that I've always wanted the best the world could offer to them. Health, prosperity and success are but a few of the things I hope they find. I hope for the restoration in their life, even if it means I never hear from them again. We may never know.

The gates of the Stranded Tree Farm will always be open to our friends, both near and far. Even friends we thought were lost forever are welcome. If friends reach out, we will not turn them away.

If our time is over, I understand. I wish them Godspeed and, regretfully, Farewell...

Wednesday Wildlife - this guy is nuts!

Another local wildlife character posing for the camera:

From a stack of pictures that I need to post is a reminder that nature has some comedy in it.

Tuesday Triumph - May visit

After a ten day absence, I was beginning to worry a bit about our 3-legged deer. No need as she showed up on May 5th among the apple trees.

Still looking healthy.

Friday is buck day - among the clouds

It's almost like he knew the camera was there.

This young buck gave a pretty good profile picture.

What's this racoon doing?

I see this picture and have to wonder what this racoon is doing with their hands?

Tuesday Triumph - keeping an eye out

Triumph made many visits during May and I'm catching up on some of the better photos. In these, she is looking behind, keeping her eyes peeled for anything sneaking up on her. She seems to always be looking and listening to what's going on around her.

She stands a chance of making it, if she is cautious of any threats and stays out of the way of vehicles. I have my doubts if a hunter would want to take a shot at her but there always is that one guy...

She's welcome anytime to stay at our place.

White Turkey

This mostly white turkey showed on a May morning. Maybe a domestic turkey escaped and crossbred with the local population but this was an unusual find on the camera.

She stayed with us for a couple of days and I captured 3 seconds of her walking in front of the apple trees.

Something new and unusual sometimes stops by at the acreage before moving on.

Rest among the walnuts, looking down the hill

Another moment of rest and reflection in the shade of the walnut trees, looking down the hill to the east. Taken the summer of 2018, after a few hours of trimming, I took a short break and listened...

At this point in time, I was only on row 4 of 12, so after this short break, it was back to work!

Swallows on the water

Taken during the calm period here on 5/23/19:

A peaceful time watching the swallows feed on the water.

Monarchs in May

This unusual spring has brought the Monarchs back to the area. Maybe I haven't been paying attention but it seems that there are more this year at the end of May than in previous years. Perhaps our cultivation of milkweed plants are paying off.

This butterfly looks weak from its long spring migration as the colors are faded. It didn't help that I was stomping around and disturbed it. This little one is taking a rest on a young milkweed plant.

Tuesday Triumph and friend

In April, Tiumph appeared in the SE corner on the 26th:

And a few minutes later, another doe came into view:

It looks like maybe Triumph isn't quite alone all the time.

We named her Triumph - Tri (for the number 3) and umph for all the extra effort she will need to survive.

We keep an eye out for her for her next return although with the recent massive growth of weeds and muddy conditions, I haven't had a chance to mow. Maybe this week will be a bit drier.
